One standout piece from Prada’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a black frame bag that refuses to settle for ordinary clasps. Instead, it features the intricately hand-carved head of a mythological figure, drawing inspiration from a design dating back to around 1913. While the bag appears to crinkle like paper, it’s actually crafted from a blend of nappa leather and Re-Nylon fabric, meticulously replicating the silk moire texture of its predecessor.

This emphasis on craftsmanship permeates the entire collection, embodying the creative vision of co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. From fringed skirts adorned with more grommets than a heavy metal concert to utility cabans crafted from hand-treated cotton and patinated leather, each piece celebrates the art of handmade construction.

This handbag is based on a design created by Miuccia Prada’s grandfather, Mario, in 1913.

“For this collection, we wanted to spotlight the work – the methods, techniques, and value. There’s a profound respect for our role as designers and the craftsmanship involved in creating clothes. Ultimately, the clothes speak for themselves,” explains Mrs. Prada.
