She’s back? She is back! We couldn’t quite believe that Céline Dion was to be the star of our May issue. What a treat! The last few times we saw her? An appearance at the Met Gala (the event is featured in this issue for its The Garden of Time edition, which is taking place on May 6, 2024, some moving posts on her Instagram account, in which she revealed her rare illness, followed by radio silence up until her surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards. Fragile, happy, emotional and adored. And now, here she is, featured in the pages of our magazine, in France. This was important to her as a globally renowned star and proud Francophone.
Céline Dion makes her comeback for the May 2024 issue of Vogue France
Céline Dion is making her comeback tentatively, “one day at a time” but with admirable determination. She is a vocalist behaving like an athlete! We will be waiting to hear her voice and its perfection, that we have missed. We will be overjoyed to hear it again.” Céline Dion‘s voice has such presence. Everything about her is so genuine, so real. Her sincerity, her humor, her love, and the surprising paradox of her being an international star with such disarming, down-to-earth charm. There is a song that her compatriot Robert Charlebois adapted for her, with such finesse and sensitivity, with bespoke lyrics that resonate so clearly today: “I am a very ordinary girl/ Sometimes I don’t feel like doing anything anymore/ I’ll play music, with a drink/ With my mother, my sisters, my brothers/ But I have to think about my career/ I am a popular singer/ You see me as a goddess/ I am a woman, not a princess. / If I can confess/ It’s when I sing that I feel better.” She is a popular and universally loved singer. We must disagree with some of the lyrics, though as Céline Dion is a truly extraordinary woman.
