A couple who adopted a cat from Egypt learned in a few short months how much a diet can transform a cat into a whole new feline.
In an April 21 TikTok video posted by user @guccithekitten, owners Zoe and Ethan showed how their cat Gucci’s fur completely changed within seven months of adopting her. The first clip shows the orange cat with short, thin hair and a skinny tail, which isn’t uncommon for cats.
But then the video cuts to Gucci strutting her way down the hallway looking like a completely new cat. Gucci now has a mane of long, luscious locks around her face. Not to mention the cat’s tail is a night and day difference, fluffed up to perfection.
So what changed? It’s all in the diet and grooming, Zoe explained.
“She was adopted from a shelter in Egypt that rescued street cats and I was told they don’t have the best food,” Zoe told Newsweek. “So we gave her a really good diet and we brush her almost every day!”
Nutrition and properly grooming your cat are important aspects of maintaining the health of their skin, according to Vet Explains Pets. The right grooming tools will help remove loose fur and prevent mats or tangles.
Diet and supplements also help fur health and, like humans, cats need a balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. WebMD says that a diet filled with mostly generic, poor-quality foods will likely lead to a poor-quality coat. Owners should instead switch to a premium brand of cat food and try incorporating fatty acids like the ones found in salmon or fish oils.
However, it is recommended to consult your veterinarian before changing your cat’s diet or using additives. Cat owners should expect to wait four to six weeks before seeing results.
It wasn’t just Gucci’s hair that transformed since she was adopted. Her personality changed too as she got used to her new home.
“She was so shy and docile in the beginning,” Zoe said. “She hid in a cabinet for two [days] and now she runs the place!”
The TikTok clip quickly went viral, reaching more than 2.1 million views, 487,900 likes and 541 comments as of Monday.
“Sis taking her hair skin & nails vitamins,” commented a viewer.
Another added: “THE Glow Up Queen.”
A third comment reads: “Gucci out here full on PEACOCKING.”
“Just shows you how love changes them,” said a TikTok user.
