An alliance of organizations from five nations, known as "Restitution for Africa," has initiated legal action against French billionaire Vincent Bolloré. The lawsuit accuses him of employing unethical practices to amass a significant business empire across Africa. While simultaneously supporting prominent figures in the American music scene like Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and Rihanna through his financial stakes in Universal Music Group, Bolloré allegedly engaged in corrupt activities that drained resources from impoverished African communities.

At the heart of the allegations is the claim that Bolloré, along with one of his sons, secured shipping rights in various African ports through illicit means such as bribery and secret agreements. These actions reportedly included backing political leaders and offering advantageous positions to family members of officials. Following these alleged underhanded dealings, the complaint suggests that they subsequently sold their logistics company for over $6 billion in 2022, effectively laundering the proceeds of their purported misconduct. Restitution for Africa requests that the court confiscate the sale's profits and reallocate them to affected communities within Togo, Guinea, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.
