A billboard in Madrid for fashion giant Gucci has been sparking spirited discussions back in India. The reason is Alia Bhatt whose face adorns the giant billboard as part of the fashion brand’s Eyewear Spring Summer 2024 campaign by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno.
She is featured alongside other global ambassadors of the brand, Ni Ni and Vittoria Ceretti. The campaign has been shot by David Sims.
Alia Bhatt is seen sporting a piece from the collection, dressed in a striped shirt. Gucci’s official website says about the campaign: “Against a sunlit cityscape of Milan, these three women, each with their own sophisticated, sensual, and confident attitude, showcase the latest styles encapsulating how the new frames fit seamlessly into a contemporary lifestyle.”
The picture of the billboard was first shared by a user on the reddit thread BollyBlindsNGossips expressing amusement about it: “Felt a faint shade of pride, because any Indian anywhere makes you proud.”
This sparked a debate about the actor’s global popularity on the forum. Many appreciated the campaign and heaped praises on it.
“It is a really good photo that’s selling the glasses,” said one user.
“Good for her! Looking forward to Jigraa and Love and War!,” said another.
“Gucci has been missing the mark lately but this is a dope shot,” wrote a user.
However, some Redditors were also underwhelmed by the campaigns and expressed their disappointment.
“She looks great here but having seen her all these years, it’s safe to say she rarely rocks an outfit. She is a great actress but no so great when it comes to fashion and all. Like Gucci, other fashion brands such as Cartier and Louis Vuitton are quite bullish on the India opportunity, opening up retail stores in high-end malls as opposed to luxury hotels. These luxury fashion brands are looking to ride India’s wave of strong economic growth and rise in the number of millionaires with an eye for fashion.
Gucci also opened its boutique store at the Jio World Plaza in Bandra Kurla Complex in January 2024.
