Art and Food: A Celebration of Community and Creativity
2025-03-31

An exciting collaboration between the Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) and Bounty & Soul is set to inspire both creators and visitors alike. The initiative, titled “Sustenance,” will transform the Upper Gallery at BMCA into a vibrant space where visual artists from diverse backgrounds explore the multifaceted concept of nourishment. Through this group exhibition, participants are encouraged to delve into how sustenance manifests in various forms—whether physical, mental, or spiritual—and reflect on its role in sustaining life.

The exhibit serves as more than just an artistic showcase; it embodies the missions of both organizations involved. Bounty & Soul champions the belief that everyone should have access to wholesome food and opportunities for personal growth, while BMCA aims to foster connections between people and the arts. According to Lori Cozzi, Executive Director of BMCA, the partnership aligns seamlessly with their shared values. By merging art and food, “Sustenance” invites audiences to consider what truly enriches them individually and collectively as a community.

From April 4th through the 25th, visitors can experience this thought-provoking collection free of charge. The event begins with a welcoming reception on Friday, April 4th, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, offering attendees the chance to engage with contributing artists and organizational representatives over complimentary refreshments. This gathering not only highlights the relationship between art, food, and community but also supports both institutions financially, as proceeds from sales during the exhibit will be donated to BMCA and Bounty & Soul.

Creative expression has the power to unite individuals around common goals and aspirations. By showcasing works centered on themes of sustenance, this exhibition underscores the importance of nurturing body, mind, and spirit within a supportive environment. It encourages viewers to think critically about what they need to thrive and how communities can work together toward mutual enrichment. Such endeavors remind us all of the profound impact that creativity and collaboration can have when harnessed for good.
