Céline Dion’s health has been a topic of conversation since her diagnosis back in 2022 when the Quebec singer began her battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS).
Dion doesn’t speak out regarding her health battle too often, bringing fans up to speed only every so often. The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer has since shared a recent update in honour of SPS Awareness Day, which is celebrated on Friday, March 15.
The diagnosis, unfortunately, resulted in the cancellation of Dion’s world tour. With a few public appearances at the Montreal Canadiens games in Las Vegas, Dion surprised fans and viewers at the 2024 Grammy Awards — where she presented Taylor Swift with the Album of the Year award.
Following reports that Dion had lost control of her muscles, a common symptom of SPS, fans were worried that the Quebec icon would no longer be able to sing or perform.
Thankfully, Dion put the rumours to rest as she strutted on stage alongside her eldest son, René-Charles Angéli; named after his late father. Dion spoke with such vibrancy and poise and it goes without saying that she looked absolutely remarkable.
Dion also appeared backstage at the Grammys, singing alongside Sonyae Elise — making it clear that the singer has still got it (and then some).
Now, on SPS Awareness Day, Dion shared an update on her health, posing in an adorable family photo with her three kids, this time with twin boys Eddy and Nelson Angéli, too.
“As many of you know, in the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible,” Dion wrote.
The singer went on to share her gratitude for all of the love and support she has received over the last few years from her children, family, her team and of course, her fans.
“I want to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world that have been affected by SPS. I want you to know you can do it! We can do it!” Dion continued.
The Instagram post was met with nothing but love for Dion, with fans pouring in some extra support for the ‘I’m Alive’ artist. “We love hearing from you and love even more knowing you’re happy and getting stronger,” one fan wrote.
“Beautiful picture and post. Keep advocating and bringing awareness to this syndrome/disability. It is so important that you are an advocate and a voice for those who can’t speak up. Keep fighting. Keep strong. You can overcome this,” another devoted fan commented.
