Céline Dion shares a health update amid battle with Stiff Person Syndrome

Céline Dion has spoken candidly about her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, and her determination to keep fighting the neurological disorder.

In a new interview with Vogue France, Dion, 56, said she’s taking things “one day at a time” but says she’s grateful for having access to “good doctors and good treatments”.

“I’m well, but it’s a lot of work. I’m taking it one day at a time,” Dion told the publication.

Explaining that she has physical and vocal therapy five days a week, the singer said she’s a fighter and determined to work on health and never give up.

She said she’s grateful for the “love” around her, including that of her children, and added: “People who suffer from SPS may not be lucky enough or have the means to have good doctors and good treatments.”

“I have those means, and this is a gift.”

Stiff-person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects the nervous system, and specifically the brain and spinal chord.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, symptoms of the disorder can include “extreme muscle stiffness, rigidity and painful spasms in the trunk and limbs, severely impairing mobility.

Dion previously was forced to postpone some tour dates due to her battle with the condition, which she said was affecting her voice.

Céline Dion opens up about health battles in new documentary

The music legend made the announcement in a video clip shared to social media, assuring fans she is doing everything she can to keep her symptoms at bay.

“I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,” she said. “But I have to admit it’s been a struggle.”
