Community Support: Dual Food Distribution Event in Hays County
2025-03-23

A collaborative effort between the Central Texas Food Bank and Hays County Pet Resource Center brought relief to both humans and animals through a drive-up distribution event. Held at McCormick Middle School in Buda, this initiative marked the first such occurrence of the year, opening its doors to all residents of Hays County. Participants did not need to bring their pets along to receive pet food supplies, ensuring convenience for attendees.

This particular gathering represented the fifth pet-focused food distribution event organized in Buda. According to Michelle Cohen, Commissioner for Precinct 2 of Hays County, regularity plays a crucial role in expanding awareness and participation. Last year, four quarterly events successfully provided food assistance to over 1,500 pets. Cohen emphasized the challenge faced by individuals dealing with food insecurity, often forced to choose between feeding their families or their pets. By addressing this issue, the county aims to support families in retaining their beloved pets.

Through thoughtful planning and community involvement, initiatives like these highlight the importance of comprehensive support systems. Such efforts not only alleviate immediate needs but also foster a sense of unity and resilience within the community. By prioritizing both human and animal welfare, Hays County demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all its residents.
