Construction Disrupts Traffic and Local Businesses in Ammon
2025-01-22

The bustling streets of Ammon have seen a significant shift in traffic patterns recently, particularly around the Grand Teton Mall and Ammon Target. A major construction project is underway on 17th Street near the entrance to Albertson’s, where the city is undertaking a complete overhaul of the bridge that spans Sandcreek. This high-traffic area has now become a challenge for drivers who usually rely on this route, forcing them to seek alternative paths. The closure has only been in effect for a couple of days, yet it has already caused disruptions for nearby establishments.

Nearby businesses are feeling the impact of these changes. The Idaho Falls Veterinary Hospital, located close to the construction site, has experienced unexpected challenges with its parking lot turning into a makeshift U-turn spot for confused drivers. Becca Lichtenberg, the Office Manager, mentioned that staff had to manage traffic congestion themselves to ensure smooth operations during appointments and surgeries. They even took it upon themselves to reconfigure traffic cones to create a more manageable flow. Despite these efforts, the situation remains challenging as the city works to address the issues.

The project, funded by state resources allocated for infrastructure improvements, aims to replace outdated structures across the region. While the duration of the construction remains uncertain, the city of Ammon is committed to enhancing local infrastructure for the long-term benefit of residents. In the meantime, both drivers and business owners are encouraged to remain patient and adaptable as the community navigates these temporary inconveniences together.
