In response to the declared state of emergency across Northern Michigan, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan has initiated a series of emergency food distributions. These efforts aim to alleviate the burdens faced by residents grappling with hardships brought on by the crisis. The food bank is organizing several distribution events at strategic locations throughout the region. Through collaboration with community partners, they are striving to ensure that all affected individuals have access to essential nutrition during this challenging period.
In the heart of spring, as communities in Northern Michigan face unprecedented challenges, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan has taken decisive action. A series of emergency food distributions commenced on Monday, April 14th, at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Posen, followed by another event on Wednesday, April 16th, at Hilman Lions Club at Patchwood Plaza. Later that same day, a distribution took place at Lincoln Pop-Up Pantry. On Friday, April 18th, assistance was extended to Lewiston at the First Baptist Church, and finally, on Saturday, April 19th, the Otsego County Food Pantry in Gaylord hosted a morning distribution. Each location was chosen to maximize accessibility for those in need.
Kara Ross, CEO and President of the Food Bank, emphasized the organization's dedication to supporting families enduring these tough times. She highlighted the importance of their partnerships, which enable them to act swiftly and effectively. Residents requiring aid were invited to attend the nearest distribution without pre-registration, receiving food on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies were depleted.
The Food Bank continues its tireless efforts in coordination with local agencies, volunteers, and donors. Those wishing to support can visit their website or contact them directly.
