In a concerning incident that unfolded last Friday, the Navasota Police Department (NPD) apprehended an individual linked to gunfire at a parked vehicle in a local supermarket's parking area. The event began with reports of erratic driving on Highway 6 South, followed by a separate call about shots fired at a parked car in the Walmart lot. Upon investigation, officers discovered a pickup truck with apparent bullet damage. Following a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies and community vigilance, the suspect was identified and arrested. He now faces several serious charges including reckless conduct and criminal mischief.

Swift Response to Reports of Reckless Driving and Gunfire

Law enforcement responded promptly to alarming reports of a driver exhibiting dangerous behavior on Highway 6 South around mid-afternoon on January 31st. Shortly thereafter, another witness reported observing someone from a matching vehicle discharging a firearm at a stationary car in the Walmart parking lot before fleeing the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a pickup truck with damage indicative of gunfire. This prompted immediate action to secure the area and ensure public safety.

The NPD initiated a thorough search for the suspect’s vehicle, coordinating closely with nearby schools to heighten security as a precautionary measure. A critical tip from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office guided officers to focus their efforts around FM 2154. The collaborative approach between various law enforcement units proved instrumental in narrowing down the location. The vehicle associated with the incidents was eventually located in Millican, leading to the identification and arrest of Charles Medina, a 29-year-old resident of the area. Medina was found to be under the influence during his apprehension.

Resolution and Charges Brought Against Suspect

Following the arrest, officials conducted a detailed investigation that uncovered additional evidence, including the recovery of a firearm. The swift resolution of this case underscores the importance of community cooperation and inter-agency collaboration in ensuring public safety. Authorities emphasized the seriousness of the actions taken by the suspect, which endangered numerous individuals.

Charles Medina now faces multiple charges stemming from his involvement in these events. Specifically, he has been charged with Deadly Conduct for firing a weapon in a public area, Criminal Mischief due to the damage caused to the vehicle, and Reckless Driving for his erratic behavior on the highway. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by such actions and highlights the need for continued vigilance and rapid response from law enforcement to protect community members.
