Bronx Parking Garage Vandalism Sparks Community Concern
2025-01-29

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a series of break-ins at a private parking garage in Pelham Parkway, the Bronx, has left residents questioning their safety and security. Surveillance footage captured an individual entering the garage and systematically damaging over 20 vehicles within a span of 40 minutes. The incident occurred while most residents were still asleep, leaving many shocked and concerned about the sudden rise in criminal activity.

The suspect was seen using a specialized tool to break into the cars, causing significant damage but ultimately failing to secure much loot. Ousmane Doumbia, one of the affected residents, found shards of glass scattered inside his Jeep Grand Cherokee, yet nothing of value was taken. “It’s baffling why someone would do this knowing cameras are everywhere,” he remarked. Co-op board president Peter Morello echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of this crime and the importance of paying for secure parking.

Recent trends in the area have shown a concerning increase in burglaries, with incidents in the 49th Precinct area rising by 41.7% this year. Authorities are investigating whether this latest event is part of a broader pattern, as similar cases have been reported in other garages within the same precinct. Community leaders urge the suspect to reconsider their actions and seek productive alternatives. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance to prevent such occurrences in the future.
