The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has announced the apprehension of an individual involved in a serious incident. The suspect, who was wanted for multiple offenses, including hitting a pedestrian with a stolen vehicle, has been taken into custody. Details about the capture have not yet been disclosed.

Previously, authorities had requested public assistance in locating a man accused of striking a woman while driving a stolen black Chevrolet Camaro. According to Assistant Chief Wesley Richerson, during a routine patrol, a deputy observed reckless driving behavior from the Camaro, which included running stop signs. When the deputy attempted to halt the vehicle, the driver accelerated and eventually veered onto a sidewalk on Rosa Parks Avenue near West Patton Avenue, colliding with a 58-year-old woman around 4:00 PM. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Baptist Medical Center South for urgent care.

This alarming event underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. The driver, identified as Gerald Jerome Johnson Jr., fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a car that contained a stolen firearm. Johnson faced existing warrants in Elmore County and was charged with various felonies, including first-degree assault, eluding police, and receiving stolen property. Authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and restoring safety to the community. They also expressed gratitude to those who promptly reported the incident and aided the injured woman. This collaborative effort highlights the resilience and solidarity of the community in the face of such challenges.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is working alongside several agencies, including ALEA, the U.S. Marshals Service, the District Attorney’s Office, MPD, and the MACS Task Force, to ensure thorough prosecution. The community remains united in supporting the victim and her challenging recovery journey, demonstrating unwavering support for those affected by such incidents.
