This summer, Central Oregon is set to host a series of extraordinary outdoor performances as part of the 10th anniversary tour of "IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild." Renowned pianist and naturalist Hunter Noack will present seven concerts across the region. Known for transforming breathtaking natural settings into immersive concert venues, this event invites audiences to wander freely while enjoying classical music through headphones. This year, the series expands with the introduction of the Dark Sky initiative, featuring concerts in designated dark sky areas.
A total of eight concerts are scheduled from June 1 to September 17 in various locations such as Kah-Nee-Ta Resort, Black Butte Ranch, and Drake Park. Tickets cost $45, but free access is available through the Good Neighbor Program, ensuring everyone can experience this unique blend of nature and music.
The concept behind these concerts redefines the traditional concert hall by placing listeners directly within some of America's most awe-inspiring landscapes. Attendees wear headphones, allowing them to move freely throughout the area, creating a personalized journey where each step harmonizes with the surrounding environment. The experience transcends mere listening, inviting participants to explore their surroundings while being serenaded by timeless melodies.
This innovative approach not only connects people with music but also deepens their appreciation for nature. By removing physical barriers like fixed seating or enclosed spaces, it fosters an intimate connection between the audience and the environment. Whether perched atop a mountain, strolling through ancient forests, or basking in sunlit meadows, every moment becomes enriched by the symphony playing softly in one’s ears. This setup encourages exploration, making each attendee's experience uniquely their own.
This season introduces a new dimension to the concert series via the Dark Sky initiative. Two special events will take place within protected dark sky sanctuaries, offering unparalleled opportunities to enjoy music under starlit skies. These locations include the Oregon Outback Dark Sky Sanctuary and Sunriver, Oregon's first community recognized for its dedication to preserving night skies.
By incorporating dark sky elements, the organizers aim to enhance both the auditory and visual aspects of the performance. In these secluded settings, far from urban light pollution, stars twinkle brightly overhead, providing a celestial backdrop that complements the music beautifully. This initiative underscores a commitment to environmental stewardship and education about the importance of preserving natural darkness. It promises attendees an unforgettable evening combining stellar views with enchanting compositions, further enriching their overall experience.
