Keiyonla Knight, a senior shooting guard from Foley High School, has been named the Rich’s Car Wash Player of the Week. Her outstanding performance in the 7A area championship, where she secured MVP honors with an impressive 20 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals, has not gone unnoticed. Despite battling back from an MCL injury sustained last April, Knight has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. This season, she has averaged 19.8 points per game, along with 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Her dedication to basketball and unwavering commitment have earned her recognition both on and off the court.
Knight's journey has been nothing short of inspirational. After undergoing surgery for an MCL injury in April, she faced challenges but remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence. The support from her coaches, including Shanece McKinny Sims, Thomas Edwards, Charlie Scofield, and Anthony Sims Jr., played a pivotal role in her recovery and success. Coach Sims highlighted Knight's exceptional season, noting that she achieved membership in the 1000-point club at the beginning of the year. “She has left everything on the court every single game,” Sims remarked, praising Knight's aggressive playing style and toughness. Off the court, however, Sims describes Knight as a sweet and coachable individual who excels academically and is a pleasure to be around.
Basketball is more than just a sport for Knight; it's a way of life. Her family and teachers attest to her relentless dedication, often seeing her practice tirelessly. The significance of this award cannot be overstated, as it acknowledges the hard work and perseverance she has exhibited since her early days. “It means so much to me,” Knight expressed, reflecting on her childhood when she would walk around the neighborhood with a basketball. Her father recalls how passionate she has always been about the sport, making this recognition particularly meaningful.
Rich’s Car Wash is committed to celebrating local student athletes like Knight, recognizing their contributions to leadership and community growth. As Foley prepares to face Alma Bryant in the Sweet 16, scheduled for Friday at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, fans can look forward to another stellar performance from this dedicated athlete. Congratulations to Knight and the Lions on their achievements and continued success.
