Hong Kong Sees Surge in Enterprise Attraction and Talent Acquisition
2025-05-15

A significant rise in enterprise attraction has been noted in Hong Kong, with Acting Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Bernard Chan sharing the latest figures. In the first four months of this year, Hong Kong successfully supported 223 enterprises from Mainland China and other regions worldwide. This marks a notable 13% increase compared to the same period last year. These newly arrived businesses are expected to inject over $22.3 billion in direct investment into the local economy while generating more than 4,900 employment opportunities during their initial phase of operation or expansion.

Among the incoming firms, over a quarter have expressed intentions to establish international or regional headquarters within Hong Kong's borders. The leading countries contributing to this influx include Mainland China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. Key sectors driving this trend encompass financial services and fintech, family offices, innovation and technology (I&T), tourism and hospitality, as well as consumer products. Additionally, the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES), which operates under the Financial Secretary since its inception in 2022, has successfully lured 84 strategic enterprises to Hong Kong. Many of these companies also aim to set up their international or regional headquarters in the city.

Complementing these efforts is the government's dedication to talent acquisition. From January through April of this year, over 45,000 new applications were received under various talent admission schemes, resulting in more than 35,000 approvals. Bernard Chan emphasized the ongoing commitment by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to attract both enterprises and skilled individuals from Mainland China and abroad. This dual focus on business and talent underscores Hong Kong's strategy to remain competitive and thrive as a global hub for innovation and commerce. By fostering an environment conducive to growth and opportunity, Hong Kong continues to pave the way for a prosperous future.
