On June 21st, the inaugural Make Music Day took place at Owen Rose Garden, drawing a dedicated crowd eager to support local musicians. The event was made possible by funding from the City of Eugene Arts in the Park grant, allowing diverse musical performances to captivate audiences throughout the day. Beyond Owen Rose Garden, other venues such as the 5th Street Public Market and Eugene’s Saturday Market joined in celebrating this vibrant occasion.

Rainy conditions did little to dampen the enthusiasm of both organizers and attendees alike. Katy Vizdal, Education and Community Engagement Director at Eugene Symphony, expressed pleasant surprise at the turnout, highlighting the community’s resilience and passion for music. With eleven different groups performing from morning till evening, each act brought their unique style to life, enriching the experience for all present.

The Eugene Symphony Guild, known for hosting past events regardless of weather, embraced the challenge with open arms. Sandra Weingarten, a guild member, emphasized the importance of continuing traditions rain or shine, acknowledging the positive response from the public. Attendees like Malcolm Stewart reflected similar sentiments, valuing the opportunity to enjoy live music amidst the gentle Oregonian drizzle.
