Opening of NSG Impact: A Beacon for Youth Empowerment
2025-03-25

A significant milestone was reached on Saturday, March 22, with the grand opening of the NSG Impact Boxing & Community Center in Rialto. The event featured heavyweight boxing icon Deontay Wilder alongside various city officials, celebrating founder Darious Harris's vision to uplift local youth through sports, education, and mental health initiatives. This new center is set to enhance the organization's outreach, providing a safe space for young individuals to develop skills and confidence.

A New Chapter Begins for Rialto's Youth

In the heart of Rialto, at 898 W. Rialto Ave., an enthusiastic crowd gathered to witness the unveiling of this transformative community hub. Among the attendees were Mayor Joe Baca Sr., Councilmembers Andy Carrizales and Edward Montoya Jr., as well as representatives from the police and fire departments. Councilmember Carrizales expressed optimism about the center's potential to strengthen the community.

Darious Harris, a Golden Gloves champion and certified USA Boxing coach, has long envisioned such a facility. After securing the location in December 2024, his team swiftly converted the 1,300-square-foot building into a fully equipped boxing and community center. The amenities include speed bags, heavy bags, weights, a stairmaster, treadmill, and classroom equipment for workshops.

Harris remarked on the overwhelming support from the city, particularly noting Wilder's personal attendance. Their bond transcends professional ties, emphasizing genuine camaraderie. During the event, Wilder pledged to double all donations, prompting generous contributions from council members and the mayor.

Beyond boxing, NSG Impact plans to expand its programs focusing on youth development and family engagement. Initiatives include a financial literacy series in collaboration with Chase Bank, creative sessions with Curls, Quails, and Crowns, and upcoming Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes.

Empowering Through Sport and Education

Harris believes that boxing teaches resilience under pressure, a lesson he aims to impart on the youth. The center serves students from several local middle schools, offering them a safe, USA Boxing-certified environment to explore amateur boxing. His dedication to community service earned him recognition as Rialto's 2025 Citizen of the Year.

Looking forward, Harris intends to collaborate with San Bernardino County Behavioral Health to address youth recidivism, increase staffing, and eventually relocate to a larger facility to accommodate more families. Despite already having a waitlist, Harris remains committed to ensuring every child receives the necessary support.

From a journalist's perspective, the establishment of NSG Impact signifies a pivotal moment for Rialto's youth. It exemplifies how sports can serve as a powerful tool for personal growth and community enhancement. The initiative not only fosters physical fitness but also nurtures mental well-being and educational advancement, setting a commendable precedent for similar endeavors nationwide.
