The Community Arts Music Association (CAMA) of Santa Barbara, Inc., has announced the re-election of Deborah Bertling to her third term as chair of its Board of Directors. With a rich background in music performance and education, Bertling continues to play an influential role in shaping the organization's future. Her career spans over three decades, including performances in operas, concerts, and musicals. Additionally, she has been actively involved with various arts organizations, such as Opera Santa Barbara and The Granada Theatre. This announcement also highlights other key appointments within CAMA’s leadership team for the upcoming year, further solidifying their commitment to advancing the performing arts.
Bertling, originally from Pennsylvania, holds a bachelor's degree in voice performance. Her professional journey includes a decade-long tenure at Yamaha Corporation of America, where she worked as a buyer in Buena Park, California. Beyond her corporate experience, she contributed significantly to Opera Santa Barbara by leading their education outreach programs. Moreover, she volunteered as a Music Matters docent in local schools under CAMA's initiative. Since 2004, Bertling has served on CAMA's board, previously holding the position of president for the Women’s Board. She was instrumental in overseeing the Centennial Celebration Committee, which managed some of CAMA's most ambitious events between 2014 and 2020.
In addition to her work with CAMA, Bertling has held the presidency of the Performing Arts Music Association since 2002. Her dedication extends to serving on the Board of Directors for The Granada Theatre, a significant cultural hub in Santa Barbara. Under her leadership, these organizations have fostered a vibrant community centered around the performing arts.
On June 18, the CAMA Board of Directors honored Mark E. Trueblood by naming him President Emeritus for Life. This recognition celebrates his 27-year service as executive director and president of CAMA, acknowledging his lasting impact on the organization. As CAMA moves forward, the newly elected officers include Nancy L. Wood as first vice chair, Robert L. Castle as second vice chair, Christine Emmons as secretary, and Jan Bowlus as treasurer, ensuring a robust leadership structure.
