2025-05-09

A group of twenty talented high school choral students from Schoharie CSD recently took part in the prestigious Schoharie County Music Educators’ Association All-County Music Festival. These exceptional musicians were handpicked by their music teachers and underwent a rigorous selection process. The event featured rehearsals led by Dr. Michael Lister and culminated in an inspiring performance at Sharon Springs Central School. In addition to celebrating the participating students, SCMEA also honored two graduating seniors with scholarships for their continued dedication to music in college.

The festival brought together several school districts including Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Duanesburg, Middleburgh, Schoharie, and Sharon Springs. Among the participants, Ryan Snyder and Lindsay Haverly stood out as scholarship winners for their vocal and flute solos respectively. The list of choir participants highlights a diverse array of young talents who contributed to making this year’s festival memorable.

Exceptional Talent Recognized Through Selection and Performance

This section focuses on the selection process and participation experience of the students involved in the festival. Students representing Schoharie CSD demonstrated remarkable skill and passion, chosen not only based on teacher recommendations but also through a thorough evaluation process. Under the guidance of Dr. Michael Lister, they rehearsed extensively over two days, preparing for a grand performance that showcased their collective talent and individual strengths. This opportunity allowed them to connect with peers from neighboring districts while honing their musical abilities.

Dr. Michael Lister played a pivotal role in shaping the final outcome of the performances, leading rehearsals that emphasized both technical precision and emotional expression. Participants engaged deeply with the material, reflecting their commitment to excellence. The collaborative environment fostered friendships and mutual respect among students from different schools, enhancing the overall experience. By bringing together such a variety of voices, the festival highlighted the power of music to unite communities and inspire future generations of musicians.

SCMEA Scholarship Honors Outstanding Graduating Seniors

In addition to the festival itself, the Schoharie County Music Educators’ Association extended its support to promising young artists through scholarships. Two graduating seniors from Schoharie CSD received recognition for their achievements in music: Ryan Snyder, known for his powerful vocal solo, and Lindsay Haverly, celebrated for her captivating flute performance. These awards underscore the importance of nurturing talent beyond high school, encouraging recipients to pursue higher education in music-related fields.

Ryan Snyder and Lindsay Haverly exemplify the potential impact of early encouragement and mentorship in fostering lifelong engagement with music. Their accomplishments reflect not only personal dedication but also the influence of supportive educators and community members. The SCMEA scholarship program aims to alleviate financial burdens associated with continuing music studies, allowing these students to focus on developing their craft without distraction. As they transition into collegiate environments, these young musicians carry forward the legacy of excellence established during their time at Schoharie CSD, serving as ambassadors for the transformative power of music education.
