A comprehensive law enforcement operation has dismantled a sophisticated vehicle theft syndicate that operated across Long Island over an 18-month period. The group, known as the CC Boyz, was responsible for breaking into 52 vehicles and stealing 15 cars, causing significant financial damage to their victims. In addition to the vehicles, the criminals also obtained 75 credit cards from the stolen cars, using them to make unauthorized purchases totaling $40,000. Authorities emphasized that such criminal activities will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.
The members of this group resided in Freeport and Hempstead within Nassau County but targeted affluent neighborhoods in Suffolk County, where they sought out unlocked vehicles. They utilized real estate websites to identify areas with higher-income residents and also targeted locations like country clubs, senior living facilities, hotels, and upscale fitness centers. The indictment against the 13 individuals included a total of 250 charges spanning from February 2023 to August 2024. Shawn Mullen, the alleged leader, faces 197 counts, while his associates face varying numbers of charges.
Law enforcement efforts culminated in the arrest of nine suspects on Monday, while three others were already in custody. One individual remains at large. Among those apprehended, seven were ordered to remain in detention, while five were released without bail and are scheduled to appear in court on April 2. This successful operation underscores the commitment of local authorities to uphold justice and protect communities from such malicious activities, reinforcing the message that illegal actions will face severe consequences.
