According to authorities, the elderly couple was traveling on State Route 20 when their car collided with a tractor-trailer near the town of Trinity. The male driver succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, while his wife is currently receiving medical treatment.

The unfortunate event unfolded shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. At this time, Daniel G. Chenault, a resident of Decatur, was operating a Hyundai SUV on State Route 20. As he approached the vicinity of Trinity, his vehicle came into contact with a Freightliner tractor-trailer. Senior Trooper Gregory Corble from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency provided details about the crash, stating that Mr. Chenault was rushed to Decatur General Hospital following the collision. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.

Patricia Chenault, Mr. Chenault's wife and passenger in the vehicle, also sustained injuries during the incident. She was transported to the same hospital for medical care. The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed by officials.
