2025-04-14

Two officers from the Fairfield Police Department showcased their skills and determination at the recent Guns & Hoses Charity Boxing Event. The event, a thrilling spectacle of athleticism and camaraderie, took place Saturday night at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville. Among the highlights was Officer Dane Horton's impressive first-round technical knockout (TKO) against Zak Hermann from the Evansville Fire Department. Horton expressed his commitment to continuing his involvement in future editions of this meaningful charity event.

In another compelling match, Officer Daniel Hopper faced off against Luke Morrow from the Evansville Fire Department. Hopper, who also serves as a School Resource Officer at two local grade schools, emerged victorious by decision. This marked Hopper's final year participating in the Guns & Hoses event, having dedicated the past decade to this charitable cause. In recognition of his decade-long dedication, Hopper was honored with a black belt symbolizing his unwavering commitment to the event's mission.

The annual Guns & Hoses Charity Boxing Event has grown significantly over its 18-year history in Evansville, becoming a cornerstone for community engagement and philanthropy. Organized by 911 Gives Hope, the event brings together local police officers and firefighters in friendly competition. Its primary goal is to raise funds for various local charities, particularly those supporting children and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the event aims to increase awareness about Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic condition impacting growth and development. Through such initiatives, communities come together not only to celebrate sportsmanship but also to foster compassion and support for those in need.
