The second phase of development at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin, Texas, is progressing steadily and bringing significant improvements to the community. The project, which received approval from the Lufkin City Council earlier this year, aims to enhance the park's facilities and infrastructure. Among the notable additions are energy-efficient LED lights around the fields, which will reduce maintenance costs and improve usability. Additionally, a new concession stand and additional restrooms are being constructed to better serve visitors. Director of Lufkin Parks and Recreation, Buddy Timme, highlighted the importance of these upgrades, noting that they are long overdue and will greatly benefit the community.

Beyond the current enhancements, the park has already witnessed a surge in activity since the completion of phase one last fall. New football fields and a multipurpose complex have attracted numerous sports enthusiasts, leading to an increased demand for events. The renovation of five baseball fields with synthetic turf has also contributed to this popularity. Timme mentioned that the park is now receiving more booking requests than it can accommodate, with schedules filled through June. This influx of visitors includes teams from neighboring cities like Tyler and Houston, boosting local tourism and supporting the economy through hotel stays and dining experiences. Other planned developments include renovations to the girls' locker room, a new parking lot, a disk golf course, and a unified entrance to streamline access.

By September, all construction activities are expected to be completed without disrupting scheduled events.
