Expanded Coverage of High School Football in Alabama Announced for 2025
2025-04-04

Alabama Public Television is set to enhance its broadcasting lineup with the inclusion of 16 more regular-season and playoff football games from the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) in 2025. Additionally, two post-season all-star matches will be part of this extended coverage. This announcement reflects a commitment to showcasing high school sports across the state, providing broader access to fans and communities alike. The collaboration between APT, AHSAA, and Broadway Productions aims to elevate the profile of student-athletes and bring their thrilling performances into living rooms statewide.

The partnership has already proven successful through the broadcast of the Super 7 State Football Championships over the past two years. According to Wayne Reid, executive director of APT, the network's focus extends beyond championship games to include the excitement of weekly regular-season matchups and playoff action starting each August. Heath Harmon, AHSAA's executive director, expressed gratitude for the collaboration that ensures live coverage reaches every corner of Alabama.

Vince Earley, executive producer at AHSAA TV and Broadway Productions, highlighted the significance of the expanded schedule beginning in 2025. With simulcasts on both APT and WOTM-TV, the reach of these broadcasts will ensure nearly universal accessibility within the state. This includes not only regular-season highlights but also special events such as the Kickoff Classic and various all-star classics held in December following the championships.

Pre-game programming will complement the weekly Game of the Week broadcasts, airing live at 5 p.m. and re-broadcast at 6 p.m., adding depth to the viewing experience. Mickey Shadrix’s addition to Broadway Communications further strengthens the production team, bringing over 25 years of television broadcasting expertise to the table. All games will continue to be streamed live via the NFHS Network, offering alternative viewing options.

This comprehensive approach marks a significant step forward in promoting high school athletics in Alabama. By integrating multiple platforms and expanding game coverage, the initiative underscores a shared dedication to celebrating local talent and fostering community engagement throughout the state. The 2025 schedule promises an exciting year ahead for high school football enthusiasts across Alabama.
