The group made the announcement via an extensive social media post, citing the misconduct of Anthony Webster as the primary reason for their decision. Webster, who allegedly drained the band's finances and engaged in inappropriate behavior, left irreparable damage to both the band and its members. With numerous high-profile performances on the horizon, including Coachella and a North American tour with Spiritbox, the abrupt dissolution has sent shockwaves through the music community.

Formed in 2018 as a side project of Sick S–t, Gel quickly became a staple in the hardcore rock scene. However, tensions reached a boiling point when Webster gained exclusive access to the band's bank account. According to the band, he misappropriated tens of thousands of dollars, using it not only for personal expenses but also for excessive OnlyFans subscriptions. This financial betrayal was compounded by allegations that Webster leaked explicit images of fellow band members onto Reddit, demonstrating a lack of professionalism and respect.

Bandmates described Webster’s actions as those of someone unable to handle adult responsibilities. His behavior caused emotional distress among the members, making it impossible for them to continue functioning as a unit. Despite their passion for music and the external pressures from fans and industry stakeholders, Gel likened their experience with Webster to being trapped in an abusive relationship. They expressed regret over the circumstances forcing them to abandon their dreams prematurely.

In addition to the emotional toll, the breakup disrupted plans for several upcoming tours. Gel had just completed a successful Australia tour earlier this year and was set to perform alongside renowned artists at major festivals. Their absence will notably impact the Tsunami Sea North American Tour, originally scheduled to feature Gel alongside Spiritbox, Loathe, and Dying Wish. Furthermore, European dates opening for Volbeat were also canceled due to the split.
