During this time, the park will restrict private vehicle access to Many Glacier and provide a temporary shuttle service for hikers. The project, which began in the fall of 2024 and will continue until mid-May 2026, focuses on replacing the outdated water system and improving road conditions, including pavement and drainage enhancements. These renovations aim to address long-standing concerns about parking and pedestrian safety.
To accommodate hikers, a shuttle service will be available, allowing approximately 120 groups per day to access Many Glacier Valley. Hikers can reserve tickets through Recreation.gov, either one week in advance or the night before at 7 p.m. Visitors with lodging reservations will still have access to the valley, as well as those with horseback riding and boating reservations. Parking will be restricted to designated areas near Many Glacier Hotel, ensuring that only reservation holders can enter the valley.
The shuttle service will operate from designated pull-outs along Many Glacier Road, providing a 15 to 30-minute ride to the hotel. Hikers must also possess a valid park entry pass. Trail access will begin at the upper parking lot of Many Glacier Hotel, with detours clearly marked around the construction zone. Detours may add up to an extra mile each way to hiking distances. Shuttle tickets will be available starting June 24, with daily reservations opening at 8 a.m., and additional availability at 7 p.m. the night before entry.
Biking and hiking on Many Glacier Road will not be permitted between July 1 and September 21 due to the lack of general parking. Tribal members, however, will retain access to the valley under the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978.
