2025-01-16

In the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, a significant milestone has been reached in the development of the city's skyline with the imminent foundation pour for the 3rd & 3rd apartment tower. This project, spearheaded by local developers Echelon and Tampa-based Third Lake Capital, marks a pivotal moment in the urban transformation of St. Pete. The upcoming pour, scheduled for the evening of January 24th, will involve an unprecedented volume of concrete, setting the stage for vertical construction to commence. Once completed, the 33-story building will offer 262 luxury apartments along with extensive amenities, retail space, and parking facilities, contributing significantly to the vibrant community.

Details of the Monumental Foundation Pour

In the twilight hours of Friday, January 24th, at precisely 8:00 p.m., KAST Construction will initiate one of the most substantial foundation pours ever undertaken in St. Petersburg. Located at the northwest corner of 3rd Avenue South and 3rd Street South, this strategic site is directly across from the bustling University Village shopping center. The main core mat foundation will require an impressive 4,000 cubic yards of concrete, expected to take between 12 to 14 hours to complete. An estimated 380 to 420 concrete trucks will navigate through the area, underscoring the scale and complexity of this endeavor. Following the successful completion of the foundation, the next phase—vertical construction—will soon follow, transforming the skyline even further.

The 3rd & 3rd tower, first announced in September 2022, will rise 33 stories high, offering a mix of studio to two-story penthouse units. Designed by Baker Barrios Architects, the structure boasts modern aesthetics with angular balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows, and dark accents. Residents can look forward to an eighth-floor amenity deck featuring an outdoor pool, cabanas, fire pits, and more. Additionally, the building will include a 330-space parking garage and 15,000 square feet of retail space available for lease. Move-ins are anticipated by the third quarter of 2026.

KAST Construction, known for its expertise in challenging urban environments, has collaborated closely with Echelon on several projects. Kristine Retetagos, Senior Vice President of KAST, highlighted the importance of teamwork and trust in overcoming the unique challenges posed by tight urban sites. The success of previous collaborations, such as the Park & Main project, underscores the strength of this partnership.

From a journalist’s perspective, the 3rd & 3rd project exemplifies the dynamic growth and development occurring in St. Petersburg. It not only adds to the city's architectural landscape but also reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents. The integration of residential, retail, and recreational spaces demonstrates a thoughtful approach to urban planning that balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. As the city continues to evolve, projects like 3rd & 3rd serve as a testament to the potential for sustainable and innovative urban development.
