Hong Kong Products Gain Popularity Among ASEAN Shoppers
2025-03-12

The appeal of Hong Kong-made items is on the rise within Southeast Asian markets, as a significant portion of online consumers in major ASEAN economies have embraced these products. According to recent research from a prominent trade council, an impressive majority of shoppers across six key markets have included at least one Hong Kong-sourced item in their purchases over the past year. The preference for these goods stems from their affordability, stylish design, and a unique fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics.

Consumer electronics stand out as the most favored category among ASEAN online buyers, capturing the interest of seven in ten shoppers. Fashion accessories and cosmetics also enjoy substantial popularity, attracting nearly four in ten and just over three in ten consumers respectively. Notably, spending patterns reveal that Singaporean, Thai, and Malaysian customers are particularly generous with their expenditures on Hong Kong products. On average, Singaporean shoppers lead the way, spending close to $370 per transaction on consumer electronics, while Thai consumers follow closely behind with an average spend of around $276.

The enthusiasm for Hong Kong products extends beyond individual preferences, reflecting broader economic ties between Hong Kong and ASEAN countries. Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines demonstrate robust engagement, with a high percentage of respondents having purchased Hong Kong goods online recently. This trend underscores the growing significance of cross-border e-commerce and highlights the potential for further collaboration and mutual growth in the region's retail sector. Embracing this positive momentum can foster stronger economic partnerships and create new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
