A recent inspection by Telangana's Food Safety Commissioner has uncovered alarming hygiene and safety breaches at several juice stalls in Hyderabad. The task force meticulously examined various establishments across the city, focusing on compliance with food safety regulations.
In Ameerpet, one of the busiest areas of Hyderabad, a stall named "Bombay Juice" was found wanting in multiple areas. Key documentation such as pest control records, medical fitness certificates, and water analysis reports were absent. Additionally, the FSSAI License was not prominently displayed, which is mandatory for all food businesses. Inspectors noted that the stall failed to maintain basic hygiene standards, with open dustbins, decaying produce in refrigerators, and unlabelled food items contributing to an unsanitary environment. Furthermore, the food handlers lacked protective gear and engaged in practices like chewing tobacco while preparing food, posing significant health risks.
Beyond Bombay Juice, other establishments in the area faced similar scrutiny. "Natural Flavours," located near Tirumala Towers, operated without a valid license, a violation that could lead to closure under the FSS Act, 2006. This stall also harbored cockroaches in its refrigerator, lacked proper labeling on soda bottles, and had expired fruit syrups. Similarly, KGN Juice Centre opposite the Government General Hospital and A1 Fruit and Juice Shop in Vengal Rao Nagar exhibited severe lapses in hygiene and licensing requirements. Issues ranged from rusty refrigerators and knives to inadequate drainage systems and open waste bins.
The findings underscore the critical need for vigilance and adherence to food safety protocols. By exposing these violations, the inspections highlight the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper documentation in food establishments. Such measures protect public health and ensure consumer trust. The proactive approach of the task force serves as a reminder that upholding high standards in food preparation is essential for community well-being, encouraging all stakeholders to prioritize safety and hygiene in their operations.
