Innovative Grain Facility Set to Revolutionize Agricultural Operations in Hager City
2025-01-24

ALCIVIA, an agricultural and energy cooperative owned by its members, has achieved significant milestones at its new grain handling facility in Hager City, Wisconsin. This state-of-the-art facility is set to enhance logistics and efficiency for farmers, significantly impacting the local community. With plans to begin accepting grain deliveries in spring 2025, the facility boasts advanced infrastructure that will streamline operations and open up new market opportunities. The project reflects ALCIVIA's commitment to innovation and support for its members, aiming to foster long-term growth and sustainability.

Enhanced Grain Handling Efficiency

The new grain facility in Hager City showcases impressive advancements in grain storage and processing capabilities. Equipped with eight grain bins, each capable of holding a total of 3.9 million bushels, two high-capacity dryers, and three dump pits, this facility promises faster and more efficient grain handling. Farmers can now expect reduced wait times and improved operational speed, allowing them to manage their time better and reduce transportation costs.

The facility's design ensures a combined grain handling speed of 60,000 bushels per hour, which will drastically cut down on long queues. This improvement means farmers can spend less time waiting and more time focusing on other important tasks. Jim Dell, CEO of ALCIVIA, highlighted the transformative impact of these changes, emphasizing how they reflect the cooperative's dedication to innovation and member support. The visible presence of new bins and towers reshaping the landscape symbolizes ALCIVIA's forward-thinking approach to modern agriculture.

Expanding Market Access and Economic Benefits

Strategically located on 40 acres with access to Class I BNSF rail, the facility offers farmers unprecedented market access. By leveraging the BNSF network, as well as UP and CPKC railroads, ALCIVIA can facilitate shuttle loading at multiple locations. This connectivity opens doors to both domestic and export markets, providing farmers like Don Schroeder with greater flexibility and year-round shipping options. Reduced travel distances and lower fuel costs are just some of the immediate benefits anticipated by local farmers.

The facility's proximity to the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers further enhances its logistical advantages, enabling optimal arbitrage opportunities. ALCIVIA envisions expanding services to include unattended liquid fertilizer loading and propane storage, creating a comprehensive agricultural hub. These additional resources will streamline operations, improving productivity and overall efficiency. Community leaders anticipate increased tax revenue and economic activity, positioning Hager City as a key player in the agricultural sector. Jim Lange, chairman of ALCIVIA’s Board of Directors, emphasized the broader strategy behind these investments, aimed at fostering sustainable growth and innovation for years to come.
