Jewelry Chest Stolen, Car Fire And Arrest: Parsippany Police Blotter

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Police continue to investigate home break-ins and vehicle thefts around Parsippany, and said a homeowner had a jewelry chest stolen from their home last week.

Officials also made two DUI arrests and took reports of several stolen packages with electronics in them, according to the most recent Parsippany Police blotter.

The blotter covers notable calls for service from March 10 to March 27, 2024. Here are some of the incidents that police highlighted:

On March 10 at 6:15 p.m., police responded to a Troy Road residence for a vehicle fire, where a 2008 Nissan Sentra was fully engulfed in flames on the front lawn of the home. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze, and officials located the driver nearby.

The 45-year-old Parsippany resident was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after police determined he was intoxicated, and veered off the road onto the lawn. Heat from the vehicle’s undercarriage ignited foliage on the lawn, officials said.

On March 12 at 1:16 p.m., officers responded to the report of a package theft on Avignon Drive. The homeowner said that someone had stolen a package that was delivered to her residence, containing three cell phones worth approximately $3,300. An investigation revealed that a man wearing blue jeans, a blue coat with a hood, and a face mask took the package off the steps and placed it in a white trash bag.

On March 13 at 3:17 p.m., police responded to the Hilton Hotel after employees said that someone had taken a catalytic converter from the business’s Econoline van. No suspect information has been released at this time.

On March 18 at 1:15 p.m., officers responded to an apartment at Tivoli Gardens for a reported package theft. The resident told officers that an unknown suspect stole a package containing a black iPhone Pro Max 15 cell phone, that was worth approximately $1,500. Police said a male wearing a white sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white sneakers stole the package and fled in a blue Honda CRV.

On March 23 at 9:05 p.m., officers responded to the Shoprite at 808 Route 46 on the report of a stolen vehicle. The victim told officers his white 2017 Chevy Camaro was stolen as it was parked in the rear of the store. No suspects have been identified, and anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Branch at 973-263-4300.

On March 24 at 6:06 p.m., officers arrested a Florida man who appeared to be sleeping in his car, and was later found to be intoxicated.

On March 27 at 10:29 p.m., officers responded to a Hennion Drive residence on the report of a burglary. The homeowners said they had been out of their house for several hours, and someone broke into their home via a patio door and took a jewelry chest “containing a large amount of jewelry.” The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section responded to process the scene, and officials determined that an unknown suspicious vehicle was observed driving up Hennion Drive and parked on DeHart Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. that day.
