Lehigh Valley Zoo Set for Major Transformation with $10 Million Renovation
2025-02-27

A significant transformation is on the horizon for the Lehigh Valley Zoo, as it embarks on an ambitious $10 million renovation project set to enhance its lower section. The Children’s Activity Area (CAA) will introduce a range of new facilities aimed at boosting both fun and learning experiences for visitors. Among the highlights are an innovative playground, an updated barnyard, an education center, and a splash pad. These additions promise to create a more engaging environment that fosters a deeper understanding of wildlife and conservation.

The multi-phase project, scheduled for completion by summer 2027, will bring about substantial improvements to the zoo's infrastructure. Phase one, kicking off this spring, focuses on constructing an accessible playground and redesigning the Fred & Anne Jaindl Family Barnyard. Following this, phase two will see the development of the Isaacman Family Education Center, which will offer expanded spaces for animal encounters, guest amenities, and housing for ambassador animals. Phases three and four will introduce a splash pad, a marketplace, and a semi-permanent covered seating area, further enriching the visitor experience.

The renovation reflects the zoo's commitment to expanding educational opportunities and community engagement. With additional classroom space, the zoo aims to reach a broader audience and inspire more people to learn about animals and conservation efforts. Funded through a combination of donations and zoo resources, the project has already secured $2.35 million toward its $10 million goal. As construction progresses, some animals will be temporarily relocated within the facility to ensure their well-being. This initiative builds on previous upgrades, such as Habitat Madagascar and Rothrock Red Panda Peak, solidifying the zoo's dedication to continuous improvement and public enjoyment.
