Prada hosts “Miranda July: F.A.M.I.L.Y.” on the 6th floor of the Aoyama Store. It marks Miranda July’s first solo exhibition in Tokyo and is held concurrently with her museum debut exhibition “Miranda July: New Society” at Osservatorio Fondazione Prada in Milan.
Curated by Mia Locks, the exhibition will feature a multi-channel video installation titled “F.A.M.I.L.Y. (Falling Apart Meanwhile I Love You),” derived from July’s recent project collaborating with seven strangers via Instagram over a year. Participants responded to July’s prompts with reaction videos, which she edited using a social media app. The resulting work explores intimacy and boundaries with a unique physical language, complemented by sound designed by a film collaborator of July’s.
Catalogs from Prada Foundation’s Quaderni series, including a conversation between Miranda July and Cindy Sherman and an essay by Mia Locks, will be available for purchase at both the Milan and Tokyo exhibitions. Moreover, there will be a talk between Miranda July and curator Mia Locks at Prada’s Aoyama Store on July 17.
