The Lyst Index, your quarterly ranking of fashion’s hottest brands and products, has just dropped its summary of the first quarter of 2024, and there have been some notable changes since the end of 2023. In case you didn’t already know, Lyst is a fashion tech company and premium shopping app that ranks luxury brands each quarter by looking at its own shopper’s behaviour, including searches on and off platform, product views and sales.
The last time we heard from Lyst, at Q4 2023, Prada was soaring above the rest of luxury fashion in first place, followed by Miu Miu in second, LOEWE in third, Bottega Veneta fourth, Moncler in fifth, Saint Laurent sixth, Versace seventh, Jacquemus eighth, Burberry in ninth, and Valentino appearing in tenth. However, it would appear that the first three months of 2024 have shifted the balance in plenty of ways, as Q1 2024’s ranking is evidently different. Let’s get into how.
Miu Miu snatches the top spot
Sisters Prada and Miu Miu have been battling it out for first place for a while, with Miu Miu slipping down below Prada at the fourth quarter of 2023. But it would appear that 2024 has set Miu Miu off to a better start than its older, also Miuccia Prada owned sibling, because the brand crept above Prada into first place.
Many have credited Miu Miu’s recent popularity with its recent collaborations – including the New Balance collab everyone’s gone crazy for – but we think it’s a mix of things, including the popularity of the “office siren” aesthetic right now.
Prada slips into second
Whilst Prada’s lost its number one spot on Lyst’s ranking of the hottest brands for Q1, it’s still hotter than most given it arrived in second place instead. Creative Director Miuccia Prada must be proud of the two brands she’s at the helm of, given they’re both been at the top of the rankings for quite a while, and for good reason.
LOEWE and Bottega Veneta maintain their status
In third and fourth place respectively, LOEWE and Bottega Veneta maintained their positions on the Lyst Index without any movement from either of them since the previous quarter. Both recognised for their high luxury takes on quality designs and often unusual styles, the two brands are sat comfortably at the top of Lyst’s top ten.
Saint Laurent dashes by Moncler
Saint Laurent appears to have kicked off the new year with success, considering the brand overtook Moncler in the first quarter. Naming Diana Ross as the new face of its brand and hosting a memorable FW24 show in Paris are just a few of the ways Saint Laurent’s snuck ahead, despite Moncler reporting a 17% rise in revenue in 2023 compared to previous year.
Versace stays comfortably in seventh
Donatella Versace apparently remained unaffected by the first quarter of 2024, given that her brand, Versace, remained in the same spot it was in at the end of 2023: seventh place. Putting an iconic FW24 show in Milan, dropping its Medusa ‘95 bag, and revealing Cillian Murphy as the new face of Versace Icons probably all helped Versace maintain its top ten spot.
Balenciaga shot up four spaces
Following an iconic first quarter of crisp packet drops, its “Closet” campaign featuring Kim Kardashian and Paloma Elsesser, and Winter 24 show in Paris no one’s recovered from, it’s hardly a surprise that Balenciaga crept up the list more than a couple of spaces, but did anyone expect four? Out of every brand in Lyst’s top twenty at Q1 2024, Balenciaga definitely wins “most improved.”
Valentino crept up to ninth place
Following a first quarter that revealed the news that Alessandro Michele would replace Pierpaolo Piccioli as Creative Director, Valentino has apparently caught more people’s eyes, arriving in ninth place (one spot higher than at Q4 2023). Perhaps the brand was pushed up a space by its work with the likes of Kaia Gerber, Son Ye-jin, Jolin Tsai, and SUGA of BTS at the start of this year.
Jacquemus drops two spots (but still makes top 10)
Despite the fact that Jacquemus’ founder Simon Porte Jacquemus was recently named winner of the Neiman Marcus Fashion Innovation Award, the brand saw a slight decline in its Lyst ranking. Whilst the brand has seen a minor decline, it’s still bringing up the rear of the top ten hottest brands of Q1 2024: not an easy thing to achieve.
