Phoenix Freeway Construction Leads to Major Weekend Closures
2025-01-31

This weekend, significant traffic disruptions are expected in Phoenix as construction crews advance on a major infrastructure project. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 will be closed for improvements at the Broadway Curve. This shutdown will span from Friday evening until early Monday morning. Motorists should plan alternative routes as this closure will impact travel through the heart of the city.

Several ramps leading to and from I-10 will also be affected. Drivers heading east on I-10 can expect closures of on-ramps between downtown Phoenix and Baseline Road. Additionally, the connection from southbound I-17 to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport will be unavailable. Other ramp closures scattered throughout the metropolitan area will further complicate navigation. Notably, SR 143 will be entirely shut down between McDowell Road and Loop 202 Red Mountain, requiring drivers to seek alternate freeways or surface streets.

Ongoing construction projects have necessitated lane reductions on various Valley freeways. The Loop 101 Agua Fria will operate with only two lanes in both directions over the weekend due to lighting installation work. Meanwhile, the westbound Loop 202 Santan will similarly narrow to two lanes near Arizona Avenue. These adjustments aim to enhance safety while infrastructure improvements continue. Despite the inconvenience, these measures reflect a commitment to upgrading transportation networks for the benefit of all residents.
