The illustrious career of composer Nils Vigeland has been deeply intertwined with the piano, an instrument he has explored and celebrated throughout his musical endeavors. Having retired in 2013 as Chair of the Composition Department at Manhattan School of Music after three decades of teaching, Vigeland’s latest release on New Focus Recordings showcases a remarkable compilation of his piano compositions spanning nearly three decades. This collection, titled "Perfect Happiness," not only reflects his influences from composers like Debussy, Ives, Schönberg, and Stravinsky but also highlights his unique approach to the piano's acoustic properties.

Throughout his career, Vigeland has recognized the piano's pivotal role in transforming harmonic and non-harmonic tones during the early 20th century.
