Revitalization of Naperville's Heritage Square: A New Dining and Entertainment Hub
2025-04-22

A significant transformation is set to redefine the western suburbs' retail landscape as a long-standing shopping center undergoes redevelopment. The project, known as Block 59, will introduce an exciting array of dining and entertainment options over the next two years. Positioned at the intersection of Route 59 and Aurora Avenue in Naperville, this $53 million endeavor aims to reimagine the area once occupied by Heritage Square and Westridge Court since its inception in 1990.

This ambitious venture addresses a notable gap in dining choices on Naperville’s west side, according to Rich Dippolito, Vice President of Redevelopment at Brixmor Property Group. Residents have previously had to travel considerable distances for their preferred dining experiences. In response to this demand, several renowned restaurant brands are slated to join the hub, such as The Cheesecake Factory, Stan’s Donuts, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and others. Alongside these culinary establishments, the redeveloped site will feature an open-air plaza designed with improved walkways, updated patios, modern LED lighting, and versatile spaces for community events.

The vision extends beyond mere commercial development; it seeks to foster a vibrant community atmosphere. Dippolito emphasizes that the plaza will serve as a dynamic venue for fitness classes and performances, reflecting the spirit of Naperville. Additionally, the center already boasts popular anchors like The Fresh Market, Ulta Beauty, Hollywood Palms Cinema, and Wayfair Outlet. With construction commencing in July 2024 and some eateries already operational, the momentum continues with upcoming openings, including an expansive Cheesecake Factory location. Mayor Scott Wehrli highlights the significance of Block 59, noting its role in enhancing both local amenities and economic support for educational institutions. This initiative aligns with broader trends reshaping suburban shopping and dining centers across Illinois, marking a promising chapter in urban evolution and community engagement.
