A groundbreaking approach to enhancing medical care has emerged, offering hope for patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Studies conducted by teams at UC San Francisco and Mass General Brigham indicate that digital notifications sent promptly after echocardiograms can significantly improve patient outcomes. The effectiveness of this method was demonstrated through a controlled clinical trial involving 940 patients suspected of having severe AS. The findings revealed a notable increase in AVR procedures within a year among patients whose caregivers received the alerts—reaching nearly half of the patients compared to just over one-third in the control group. Moreover, recipients of the notifications also experienced slightly extended lifespans and increased referrals to specialists for further testing.
