A new chapter in the League of Legends universe is about to unfold with Riftbound, the highly anticipated trading card game (TCG) from Riot Games. Formerly known as Project K, this physical TCG draws inspiration from the rich lore and iconic characters of League of Legends. The game's official name was revealed through an announcement video posted on its X account. In the video, key developers shared insights into gameplay mechanics, set details, and release plans, reflecting community feedback and extensive playtesting.
Developed by Riot Games, Riftbound offers a versatile playing experience that caters to various preferences. Players can engage in 1v1 battles, team up for 2v2 matches, or even participate in free-for-all rounds. Two complete sets have already been created, with Origins being the first one introduced. This set comprises over 300 cards, categorized into Units, Spells, and Legends. Notably, certain Legend cards will feature secret rare versions adorned with exclusive artwork. Iconic League of Legends characters such as Jinx, Viktor, Lee Sin, and Yasuo make appearances within these collections.
In addition to the Origins set, Riftbound introduces a Proving Grounds collection tailored specifically for newcomers to the TCG scene. These cards aim to ease beginners into understanding the game’s mechanics while providing them with an engaging starting point. As for the launch timeline, Riftbound is scheduled to debut in China during the summer of 2025. Following this initial rollout, English-speaking countries will receive the game later that year, with further global expansions planned for 2026.
To ensure a smooth distribution process, Riot Games has partnered with UVS Games, a company boasting over 17 years of experience in developing and publishing tabletop games. This collaboration promises to bring Riftbound to players worldwide effectively. Furthermore, Riftbound will make appearances at several upcoming Riot and tabletop gaming events, offering fans opportunities to learn more about the game firsthand. Fans are encouraged to stay updated via the game’s social media platforms and newly established website.
With its diverse gameplay options, extensive card collections, and strategic partnerships, Riftbound is poised to captivate both seasoned TCG enthusiasts and newcomers alike. As it prepares to launch across multiple regions, anticipation builds for what promises to be an exciting addition to the League of Legends franchise.
