Road Construction Updates in West Tennessee
2025-01-23

In the coming days, various road construction activities will impact travel across West Tennessee. Lane closures and detours are scheduled in multiple counties to facilitate necessary infrastructure improvements. These projects aim to enhance safety and efficiency on key routes, but travelers should be prepared for potential delays and altered traffic patterns.

Carroll and Gibson Counties: Major Highway Improvements

Construction efforts in Carroll and Gibson Counties will significantly affect major highways. Several projects involve lane closures and detours to accommodate essential repairs and upgrades. Motorists should exercise caution and plan their routes accordingly.

The U.S. 79 (SR-76) corridor between Cades-Atwood Road and SR 77 is undergoing extensive renovations. Grading, drainage, noise wall installation, and paving work will lead to intermittent lane closures. Additionally, Meadowbrook Lane and Big Buck Road have been closed with provided detours. The intersection improvements at SR 22 and Clyde Road, as well as SR 22 and Lexington Street, will also result in lane restrictions. TDOT advises drivers to remain vigilant and adjust to new traffic patterns.

Fayette and Shelby Counties: Interstate and Local Road Projects

Construction activities in Fayette and Shelby Counties will impact both interstates and local roads. Multiple projects require lane closures and speed reductions to ensure safe passage for motorists. Travelers should anticipate changes and allow extra time for their journeys.

In Fayette County, SR-222 near Exit 42 of I-40 will experience temporary lane closures for grading, drainage, and paving work. Speed limits have been reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph. Moreover, I-40 eastbound and westbound lanes will see intermittent closures for pavement marking operations and barrier rail installation. In Shelby County, several projects are underway, including SR-175 for roadway widening and SR-14 for bridge rehabilitation over CSX Railroad. Notably, I-40 Westbound on the Hernando de Soto Bridge will face single and double right lane closures for repair activities. Drivers should expect detours and reduced speed limits throughout these areas.
