The Saline City Council has given the go-ahead for repaving initiatives on Woodland Drive East and Industrial Drive, set to commence this summer. Construction activities are scheduled to start on June 7 and must reach substantial completion by August 15. By aligning the project timeline with the school break period, city officials aim to minimize disruptions to local traffic.
The scope of work includes resurfacing a stretch of Woodland Drive from Maple Road to Industrial Drive, as well as revitalizing Industrial Drive from its intersection with Woodland Drive up to Campus Parkway. According to Katelyn Drapeau, the City Engineer, meticulous planning has enabled the city to secure a more economical contract for these improvements. Tesha Humphriss, a senior city engineer, highlighted that the current bid was 25% lower than initial estimates, underscoring the benefits of early preparation.
The city will collaborate with Orchard, Hiltz & McCliment, Inc. (OHM), a firm with prior experience in Saline's construction projects. This partnership is expected to ensure the successful execution of the repaving efforts. Notably, financial outlays associated with this initiative will not impact the city until the fiscal year 2026. The unanimous approval by the City Council reflects a commitment to enhancing infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility. This forward-thinking approach demonstrates the city’s dedication to improving public services and infrastructure for the benefit of all residents.
