The situation escalated when one of the suspects led law enforcement on a perilous chase along I-75 in Monroe County. In the predawn darkness of Friday, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received an urgent call at 3:14 a.m., reporting that the Toledo Police Department was pursuing a brand-new Dodge Durango heading northbound on I-75. The driver reportedly engaged in reckless behavior, weaving between lanes, turning off headlights, and performing dangerous maneuvers to evade capture. As the vehicle approached N. Dixie Hwy., it began to slow down, likely due to running out of fuel. It eventually stopped just south of the Nadeau Rd. exit.

The suspect quickly exited the vehicle and leaped over a barrier into the southbound lanes, fleeing into a nearby field on the west side of I-75. Several minutes later, he was seen being picked up at a Pilot Travel Center by a blue Nissan Rogue. When officers attempted to stop this vehicle, it fled, entering I-75 southbound but driving northbound in the wrong direction. Despite efforts to disable the car with stop sticks, two young men managed to escape on foot, disappearing into the surrounding area. Both the Toledo Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating the incident. Two of the seven stolen vehicles have been recovered.
