The bandits entered the business wearing masks, then pulled out pepper spray and used hammers to smash the glass display cases, Insp. Joseph Matys, who heads up the Holdup Unit, said in a statement Wednesday.

After the heist, which was caught on video, the crooks fled the scene in the stolen vehicle with an undisclosed quantity of jewelry.

“Officers from 55 Division quickly responded to the area and located several suspects nearby,” Matys said. “The suspects began to flee on foot but officers were able to arrest three after a short foot pursuit.”

“It is further alleged that at the time of the arrests, officers recovered the stolen vehicle, a can of pepper spray, some of the stolen jewelry and other items of evidentiary value related to the investigation,” he said.
