2025-04-23

In a vibrant celebration of creativity, the Weber Fine Arts Gallery is presenting an extraordinary exhibition featuring works by graduating students from UNO. The BFA Thesis and BASA Senior Exhibition will remain open until May 6, 2025, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the diverse artistic expressions cultivated within the university. A special event, the BFA Talks, is scheduled for April 30, 2025, providing further insight into these emerging artists' inspirations and processes.

A Journey Through Creativity: Highlights of the Exhibitions

Visitors to the gallery are greeted with the BASA Senior Exhibitions at the entrance, where each student displays one or two of their finest pieces. Moving deeper into the space, the main gallery unveils the comprehensive BFA Thesis collections crafted by Chloe Jaspersen, Fatima Parra, Shiloh King, and Hayden Johnson. Jaspersen’s "Nearly There" merges digital and analog techniques, introducing eight zines that explore various themes through multimedia artistry.

Fatima Parra’s contribution, titled “The Red that Sheds in Salmos,” reflects her Chicana heritage. Her work delves into personal whims and devotional paintings, serving as a medium to articulate her journey of self-discovery, faith, and resilience. Meanwhile, Shiloh King’s collection, "Survivance: An Indigenist’s Story," honors Native American culture through a powerful blend of survival and resistance, depicted in a variety of forms.

Hayden Johnson’s art explores themes tied to her upbringing in a traditional Christian home, intertwining symbols such as cats, restrictive female attire, and nature to represent rural life and personal introspection. Together, these artists create an eclectic and profound tapestry of expression, highlighting the depth and breadth of talent present at UNO.

The exhibition remains accessible to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., inviting all to immerse themselves in this remarkable display of creativity.

From an observer's perspective, this exhibition not only celebrates individual artistic achievements but also underscores the importance of cultural diversity and personal narratives in the arts. It inspires viewers to embrace their own stories and consider how they can be expressed creatively. Such events play a crucial role in nurturing young talents and fostering a community that values artistic exploration and innovation.
