Known as the Bryant Arts and Music Venue (BAM), this project aims to become a cultural hub seating up to 3,000 people for concerts and various events. Funded by reallocating proceeds from an existing half-cent sales tax, the decision hinges on voter approval of two ballot measures. Supporters believe BAM will attract visitors, stimulate local businesses, and establish Bryant as a regional entertainment destination.

The proposed development has sparked significant interest among community members. Mayor Chris Treat envisions BAM as a cornerstone for downtown revitalization, offering not only live performances but also rental opportunities for reunions, corporate gatherings, and proms. Despite widespread enthusiasm, some residents remain unaware of the upcoming vote. Those familiar with the initiative, however, express optimism about its potential benefits. Local business owner Melanie Stacy anticipates increased foot traffic for her boutique located near the proposed site. Former resident Mark Fikes shares similar sentiments, emphasizing the economic ripple effect such a venue could create across Saline County.

Mayor Treat emphasizes the importance of public participation in shaping the future use of the half-cent sales tax revenue. Since its inception, this tax has funded numerous infrastructure projects, including parks and fire stations. However, unlike these investments, BAM represents a long-term economic stimulus rather than ongoing maintenance costs. The $30 million allocated to BAM is projected to generate additional tax revenue, sustaining further community enhancements. Conversely, directing funds toward infrastructure improvements would require continuous financial input without comparable returns.

Early voting begins on May 6 at Boswell Library, culminating in the main election day on May 13 at First Baptist Church. Should BAM receive approval, construction is anticipated to commence by early 2027. Regardless of the outcome, Mayor Treat underscores the value of engaging as many voices as possible in determining the best path forward for Bryant's development.
