2025-04-23

This year's car exhibition hosted by the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department drew an impressive turnout of around 90 vehicles, showcasing a vibrant community spirit. Several businesses from Altavista played pivotal roles as sponsors for this event, providing essential support. These included auto parts retailers such as Napa Auto Parts, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and Advanced Auto Parts, alongside specialty shops like Crawley & Sons Rod Shop and Lunar Chassis Works. Their contributions ensured that the fundraiser not only entertained attendees but also raised crucial funds for the fire department.

A range of awards celebrated the diversity and craftsmanship represented at the show. Among the highlights were accolades recognizing exceptional vehicles in various categories. The grand prize went to Frank Haerer’s stunning 1955 Chevrolet Belair, while Al Sherwood’s 1956 Chevrolet Sedan took home honors for the best street rod. Other notable mentions included Kevin Douglass’s inventive 1952 Chevrolet Truck, which was awarded for its rat rod design, and Kevin McDowell’s powerful 1969 Pontiac Firebird, recognized as the top muscle car. Additionally, categories covering trucks, 4x4s, and even the farthest traveled vehicle showcased the breadth of participation.

The annual car show exemplifies how local initiatives can unite communities around shared goals. By combining a love for automobiles with charitable efforts, the event fosters camaraderie among enthusiasts and supports vital public services. Such gatherings remind us of the importance of collective action in strengthening our neighborhoods and ensuring resources are available when they matter most.
