Construction Progress and Timeline

Currently, construction at Baton Rouge Community College's Mid City Campus is in its final push. It is expected to wrap up in late April or early May. This means that students will be able to make use of the brand new space next fall. The anticipation is palpable as the finishing touches are put in place.

The college's chancellor, Willie Smith, has been closely overseeing the construction process. He has faced the challenges of meeting new technology requirements, upgrading equipment, and ensuring a smooth supply chain for the new building. Despite these difficulties, the project is on track to be completed on schedule.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Simulators

The new building is a remarkable $53M Nursing and Allied Health facility. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms and labs that feature simulators. These simulators are designed to replicate a real hospital environment, allowing students to hone their skills in a realistic setting.

Respiratory care, RN services, clinical, surgical tech, and all the Allied Nursing Health spaces are included in this new facility. Students will have the unique opportunity to be trained on the latest equipment that hospitals across the state and the country are using. This hands-on experience will give them a competitive edge in the job market.

Addressing the Healthcare Workforce Gap

One of the most exciting aspects of this new building is its potential to welcome more students and help fill the healthcare workforce gap. Smith is optimistic that the facility will be able to accommodate 1,200 to 1,500 new and continuing students in nursing and Allied Health.

By providing these students with the necessary training and education, Baton Rouge Community College will be able to support its business and healthcare partners with fresh talent. These new graduates will be ready to go to work in hospitals and make a positive impact on the community.

Impact on Enrollment Growth

Over the past year, Baton Rouge Community College has experienced remarkable growth, reaching 17,000 students. The addition of this new facility is expected to further fuel this growth. The larger nursing and Allied Health programs at the college are particularly well-positioned to benefit from the increased capacity.

The college's success in attracting students and providing quality education is a testament to its commitment to the community. The new facility will continue to showcase the excellent work that Baton Rouge Community College is doing in the field of healthcare education.
