Call for Investigation Into Chelsea Co-Owner's Ticket Reselling Links
2025-03-26

A significant controversy has emerged in the world of football, prompting a formal request from the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST) to the Premier League. The CST demands an investigation into Todd Boehly, co-owner of Chelsea Football Club, over his ties with the ticket reselling platform Vivid Seats. The supporters’ group insists that Boehly’s dual role as both an investor in Vivid Seats and a stakeholder in Chelsea constitutes a serious breach of trust and a clear conflict of interest. This issue is further compounded by the fact that Vivid Seats is categorized as an unauthorized ticketing website by the Premier League, yet it continues to facilitate overseas ticket purchases at inflated prices.

The CST has not only addressed its concerns to the Premier League but has also submitted relevant evidence to the UK government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). In their correspondence, they expressed deep dissatisfaction among CST members regarding Boehly’s association with Vivid Seats. According to the CST, Boehly’s involvement undermines the collective efforts of Chelsea FC, the Premier League, and law enforcement agencies to curb ticket touting. Despite multiple opportunities provided by the CST for Boehly to address these issues publicly or privately, no action has been taken, leaving many tickets still available on Vivid Seats.

This situation raises important questions about ethics and integrity in sports management. While Chelsea officially condemns ticket touting as illegal and warns fans against purchasing tickets through unofficial channels, discrepancies persist. Vivid Seats operates legally outside the UK but allegedly circumvents restrictions by enabling UK-based users to buy tickets, despite disclaimers warning otherwise. With backing from the Football Supporters’ Association, the CST remains optimistic about recent club initiatives aimed at enhancing stadium atmosphere, such as introducing a new singing section. Moving forward, fostering transparency and accountability will be crucial to restoring trust within the Chelsea fanbase and ensuring fair practices in ticket distribution across the sport.
